Overview
Modern LLMs like Claude and GPT-4 are natively multilingual. With the right system prompt and an AgentClaw-hosted OpenClaw instance, you can serve a global user base without any translation infrastructure โ the AI handles it automatically.
What You'll Build
A multilingual Telegram (or Discord) bot that:
- Auto-detects the user's language from their message
- Responds in the same language natively
- Maintains consistent tone and brand voice across languages
- Escalates edge cases to human support with language context
Supported Languages (with Claude/GPT)
English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), Arabic, Russian, and 50+ more.
Prerequisites
- AgentClaw account
- Telegram Bot Token or Discord Bot Token
- Anthropic or OpenAI API key
Setup Steps
1. Create Your Instance
Sign up at agentclaw.app and create a new agent.
2. Configure the Multilingual System Prompt
The key is a clear language detection instruction:
SYSTEM_PROMPT="You are a multilingual support assistant for [Company Name].
LANGUAGE RULE:
- Detect the language the user writes in
- Always respond in THAT SAME LANGUAGE
- Never switch languages mid-conversation unless the user does first
KNOWLEDGE:
[Your FAQ/knowledge base content here โ write it in English, the AI translates]
If you don't know the answer, say so in the user's language and offer to connect them with human support."
3. Connect Your Channel
- Integrations โ Telegram: paste your bot token
- Start your instance
4. Test Across Languages
Send test messages in Spanish, French, Japanese, and Arabic. The agent should respond in each language naturally.
Quality Considerations
| Language | Claude Quality | GPT-4 Quality | |---|---|---| | English, Spanish, French | Excellent | Excellent | | Portuguese, German, Italian | Excellent | Excellent | | Japanese, Korean, Chinese | Very Good | Very Good | | Arabic, Russian | Good | Good | | Rare languages | Variable | Variable |
For customer-facing bots, test thoroughly in your target languages before going live.
Tips
- Don't list supported languages in the system prompt โ it limits the AI unnecessarily
- Use Claude Sonnet or GPT-4 for best multilingual quality (avoid smaller models)
- Monitor with Logs tab โ filter by keywords to spot translation quality issues
- Human escalation path โ for legal/sensitive content, always have a human fallback
